An innovative optical design comprising three Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and one ED glass element effectively reduces axial and lateral chromatic aberration. Exceptional resolution and contrast are maintained right to the edges of the image, which also allows for more flexible cropping and editing.
Beautiful, soft bokeh provides shallow depth of field to make subjects stand out against the background. In addition to the Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and ED elements that eliminate colour dispersion, each lens is individually calibrated during production to optimise bokeh. The 11-blade circular aperture mechanism produces smooth circular bokeh.
The lens maximises the potential speed of high-performance camera bodies, facilitating the capture of dynamic sports scenes or moving wildlife. Two high-power XD (eXtreme Dynamic) linear motors and an advanced algorithm have been developed for rapid response to control signals. In addition, the speed and accuracy of AF tracking are maintained even in continuous shooting.

This optimises balance and reduces the moment of inertia, perceived as resistance to rotation, for precise and agile panning and movement when shooting.
