The aperture mechanism of the lens has 11 blades and a circular design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly round even when the lens is closed by 1 or 2 stops to provide beautiful circular bokeh. This allows for smooth, soft bokeh backgrounds that enhance the subject.
The aperture dial offers the kind of immediacy and responsiveness that professionals need for photos or videos. The ON/OFF click switch lets you turn aperture ring clicks on or off as needed. Turning clicks on offers tactile feedback that lets you know how far you have rotated the dial with just a touch, a useful feature for stills. When clicks are off, the aperture ring moves smoothly for seamless, quiet control suitable for video.
The increased power of the new DDSSM system ensures more accurate, faster and quieter autofocus for outstanding performance. The focus mode selector switch allows you to quickly set autofocus or manual focus depending on shooting conditions. The focus lock button is customizable from the camera menu.
