The Blackmagic ATEM Constellation 8K is an Ultra HD switcher for live production, packed with high-performance features capable of operating in 8K. Equipped with 4 M/Es, it offers 40 12G-SDI inputs, 24 12G-SDI aux outputs, 4 DVEs, 16 keyers, 4 media players, 4 multiview outputs, 2 SuperSources and SDI inputs with standard conversion. When used in 8K mode, all these functions also adopt the same format.
The ATEM Constellation 8K professional switcher for broadcast and live productions incorporates a practical control panel for early intervention during configuration. The panel features a large LCD display for monitoring program output and changing settings. Despite occupying only two rack units, the back of the switcher includes 40 12G-SDI inputs, 24 12G-SDI auxiliary outputs, connections for balanced audio, Ethernet, an RS-422 control port and a MADI input to access additional digital audio sources from the internal Fairlight mixer. The Blackmagic ATEM Constellation 8K switcher is extremely silent thanks to its innovative high-efficiency thermal system and three low-speed cooling fans.The multiview function allows you to control numerous sources on a single screen. The switcher accommodates 4 independent multiview outputs, which you can customise individually or use as a single multiview in full resolution 8K. In 8K the picture quality is breathtaking. Any external input and internal source can be displayed on the connected screen, with a choice of 4, 7, 10, 13 or 16 tiles. Each panel also displays useful overlays including labels, VU indicators and tally. The ATEM Constellation 8K also includes a wide variety of broadcast-quality transitions, including mix, dip and wipe. You can customise duration, colour, border thickness, position and direction, and even work in native 8K. The Blackmagic ATEM Constellation 8K professional switcher for broadcast and live productions even offers DVE transitions, perfect for wipe effects with graphics. And to eliminate the risk of errors, it allows you to preview transitions before they go live.
DVEs are superb quality, and can be repositioned and resized in real time. Use them to create professional image effects with custom 3D borders, shadows and lighting and add effects such as swoosh, push and squeeze within DVE transitions to make your production even more immersive.
Talkback includes program audio and technical team channels, with the option to manage sidetone. The Blackmagic ATEM Constellation also supports talkback on SDI channels 15 and 16 for bidirectional communication with Blackmagic Design cameras, and on channels 13 and 14 for communication with the technical team. You can even insert voiceover by mixing the talkback microphone with program audio.
The ATEM Constellation 8K’s internal media library contains broadcast-quality RGBA graphics and animation, which can be played instantly by the two media players. On the switcher, the players appear as simple sources, avoiding the need to allocate additional SDI inputs for graphics. The ATEM Constellation’s built-in Fairlight audio mixer allows for extremely complex live mixing. With an internal mixer of 156 channels, it is the only live production switcher to offer such advanced audio performance. It separates 80 channels from the SDI inputs and allows a further 64 channels via the MADI input. Each input features a 6-band parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, expander, noise gate and panning. Additional audio channels are available for the analogue input, talkback microphone and media players.
All channels can be managed by ATEM Software Control or a compatible Mackie control panel. The Blackmagic ATEM Constellation 8K professional switcher for broadcast and live productions includes ATEM Software Control for free. Its interface is clear and well-organized, complete with menus to change any setting in an instant. Using the Ethernet connection, you can open the software on multiple computers, allowing multiple users to perform separate tasks at the same time. Use the software to control cameras, mix audio, manage media, macros and even HyperDeck recorders. ATEM Software Control is compatible with Mac and Windows.
