Full-frame Cinema Line video camera with a stacked Exmor RS sensor, BIONZ XR2 with built-in AI, and internal X-OCN recording up to 5K 120p for professional production.
The Sony FX5 is a Full-frame Cinema Line camera designed for professional filmmakers and cinematographers who need cinematic quality in a compact body. The stacked Full-frame Exmor RS CMOS sensor (35.9 x 24 mm, approximately 18.2 MP total, 16.6 effective MP) combined with the BIONZ XR2 processor featuring an AI processing unit ensures fast readout, over 15 stops of dynamic range, and a Dual Gain function for low-light shooting with reduced noise.
The camera supports Full-frame Open Gate recording up to 5K at 120p and 4K up to 240p, with internal 16-bit linear X-OCN capture in the LT, C1, and C2 codecs, and three base ISO settings (800, 4000, 12800) to accommodate various shooting conditions. The fast hybrid Autofocus with AI-based subject recognition uses up to 759 phase-detection points. The 5-axis mechanical stabilization system integrated into the body is complemented by Active and Dynamic Active electronic stabilization systems.
The compact Cinema Line body features a 3.5″ 4-axis LCD monitor with adjustable angle, a BIG6 (HOME) screen for quick control of key parameters, and professional monitoring tools (False Color, Waveform, Vectorscope, Focus Map, Histogram, Zebra, Peaking). Connectivity features include dual CFexpress Type A/SD card slots, dual USB-C ports, an HDMI Type A output, an Ethernet port, and 2.4/5/6 GHz Wi-Fi with 2×2 MIMO. The included XLR-H2 handle features two XLR/TRS inputs and a stereo mini-jack for float audio up to 96 kHz/32-bit.
Dual-gain shooting maximizes the dynamic range, reducing digital noise and bringing out more detail in shadowed areas. By fully leveraging the sensor’s capabilities, you can achieve smooth and realistic tonal transitions, thereby ensuring greater freedom during post-production.
High frame rates open up extraordinary creative opportunities for slow motion. The FX5 can shoot up to 5K at 120 fps and 4K at 240 fps, allowing Videomakers to capture even the fastest action scenes with exceptional detail and clarity: perfect for every type of production, from narrative cinema to sports coverage to documentaries.
A precision stabilization unit and gyroscopic sensors work together to provide 5-axis optical stabilization integrated into the camera body. Thanks to the optimization of the stabilization unit, the roll compensation range is expanded up to twice its original size, effectively reducing roll vibrations during handheld shooting. The result is a camera that is particularly well-suited for use without a tripod. Dynamic Active Mode provides additional electronic stabilization, and the stabilization data can also be utilized during post-production.
