The industry-leading 61.0 MP full-frame Exmor R sensor of the acclaimed α7R V is now packed into a compact Alpha 7C series body. Noise reduction, uniform chip lenses, anti-reflective optical coating, elimination of the optical low-pass filter usually placed in front of the sensor, and other original back-illuminated sensor technologies deliver high resolution, high sensitivity, reduced noise, and wide dynamic range. The new BIONZ XR image processor of Sony A7CR reduces processing latency and increases photo and video processing power for natural gradations, realistic colors, reduced noise, superior image quality, and fast menu response. Advanced imaging technology supports sensitivity settings from ISO 100 and ISO 32,000 for photos and videos. Dynamic range at reduced sensitivity is 15 stops for smooth, realistic gradations from shadows to highlights. Advanced AI processing unit provides accurate white balance even with shaded subjects. Skin tones, leaves and other elements are reproduced with natural colors in all lighting conditions, with realistic gradations as portraits roll-off.

A high-precision stabilization unit, advanced gyroscopic sensors and optimized stabilization algorithms detect and correct vibrations, offering an advantage of as much as 7 stops for manual shooting. Multiple shooting with Pixel Shift takes advantage of the precision of the built-in stabilization system to capture multiple images with Pixel Shift to compose later on a PC, creating a single image with unique resolution. It creates 16-image compositions with about 240.8 million pixels (19008 x 12672 pixels) from data equivalent to about 963.2 million pixels. Flicker from artificial lights is automatically detected, precisely adjusting the speed and timing of the mechanical or electronic shutter to reduce the effect. RWA lossless compression with three dimensions (L/M/S) includes M and S outputs at the same resolution (26MP/15MP) for full-frame and APS-C, for smooth workflows. “Lightweight” mode for JPEG and HEIF images creates files that are easy to share. “Creative Look” offers 10 presets to use with or without editing to create a variety of “looks” that help creators perfect the mood to convey in their photos or footage.

The AI processing unit detects human subjects through shape and posture data, and non-human subjects such as animals, insects, and vehicles. This improves Real-time Recognition AF and Real Time Tracking performance and makes subject acquisition with Fast Hybrid AF more accurate and reliable over a wider area. With innovative AI processing, α7CR uses subject shape data to accurately detect movement by improving human eye recognition. Posture technology accurately detects not only gaze, but also body and head position, to lock on and follow a subject who looks away from the camera or with their face partially covered by a helmet or sunglasses, for example. The AI processing unit recognizes more subjects, including the eyes of a wider choice of birds and grazing and small animals. The new Animal/Bird setting eliminates switching. It also reveals portions or whole images of cars, trains and airplanes, and the heads of insects.

BIONZ XR motor and updated algorithms improve Fast Hybrid AF performance. Up to 693 fas2 detection points cover about 79% of the area, with precise focus even for small subjects. α7CR includes contrast and phase detection AF for stable and fast focus capture even in single AF mode (AF-S). Use continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking at up to 8 fps with mechanical shutter or 7 fps with silent operation and capture even momentary movement or expression changes with extraordinary detail. The power of BIONZ XR delivers continuous shooting of about 320 JPEGs, so you can capture every highlight. Even when shooting or cropping closer to APS-C, the 26M resolution and high image quality are maintained, allowing, for example, continuous shots of birds in flight with AF/AE tracking. Sony S-Cinetone image profile offers realistic color and skin rendition, with natural midtones for healthy-looking skin, and soft colors with gorgeous highlights for a cinematic look without color grading. A7CR has an S-Log3 gamma curve to optimize latitude with more than 14 stops. Better control color in post-processing with S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3. Cine gamma settings and apply LUTs (Look Up Table) at will to preview processed footage. Active mode offers precise stabilization for videos with advanced gyro sensors and an optimized algorithm. Vibrations are accurately detected and compensated for, with extra stabilization of compatible lenses synchronized.
