The magnesium alloy camera body is super strong and only slightly larger than the lens mount. You can use inexpensive, high-performance micro 4/3 lenses or add adapters to work with broadcast ones. Designed for live production, its HDMI and SDI connections make use of the same camera control protocol as ATEM switchers. In addition, on the front side are buttons for quick access to the settings menu and to trigger recording. On high-end cameras, ISO measures the sensitivity of the sensor to light. The higher the ISO, the more gain you can add to shoot in natural light and even at night! With gain from -12dB (ISO 100) to +36dB (ISO 25600), Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera is optimized to reduce grain and noise in images while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. The primary native ISO is 400, ideal for studio lighting, while the secondary ISO of 3200 lends itself to dimly lit environments. Gain can be set from the camera’s HDMI menu or remotely from a switcher via the SDI/HDMI remote camera control. The incredible 4K sensor, combined with Blackmagic’s fifth-generation color science, guarantees the same image technology as digital cameras. It means you can now create live productions with cinematic images! And thanks to the built-in DaVinci Resolve primary color corrector, images will be much better than those from broadcast cameras. The corrector can also be controlled from the switcher. The camera has 13 stops of dynamic range, so blacks are darker and whites brighter, ideal for color correction. With a resolution of 4096 x 2160, the sensor is fantastic for HD and Ultra HD productions. Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera supports 23.98 to 60 fps.
Thanks to the micro 4/3 lens mount, Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera is compatible with many inexpensive photographic lenses from brands such as Olympus, Panasonic, and Sigma! The photographic lenses offer incredible quality because they are designed for high-resolution photography. The lens mount is active and allows remote control, ideal for remotely operating cameras installed in inaccessible locations. What’s more, with optional Focus Demand and Zoom Demand control systems you can adjust the lens just as you do with large studio cameras with expensive B4 lenses, including basic settings such as focus, zoom, and aperture. Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K includes a tally light that lights up red to signal broadcast, green for preview, and orange for ISO recording. This system helps presenters move with ease because one glance is all it takes to tell which camera is on! Because it is compatible with the SDI and HDMI tally protocol of switchers such as ATEM Television Studio, ATEM Constellation, and ATEM Mini, when the director switches from one camera to another, tally information reaches the cameras by making the on-air camera light up. And since the tally is sent to the camera via the SDI and HDMI connections, it does not require any complicated wiring.
Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K offers numerous connections to connect to broadcast equipment. The 12G-SDI supports video, tally and return signal for really fast setup. The HDMI connector allows local video monitoring with monitors like Blackmagic Video Assist, so you can change settings from the overlay menus or check the location of the remote camera. There’s a USB-C expansion port for recording to external disks or controlling the camera using Zoom Demand and Focus Demand. You can even connect a USB-C to Ethernet adapter and control the camera over the network via a REST API! A 3.5mm port is available to connect a microphone. Blackmagic Micro Studio Cameras can be connected in many ways. They have an HDMI port, ideal for connecting them to HDMI switchers such as ATEM Mini. One HDMI cable carries video, tally, camera control, and recording trigger for a broadcast-style workflow. Then thanks to 12G-SDI you can connect them to SDI switchers like ATEM Constellation. There is also a 12G-SDI connection for camera video and one for program return that conveys tally, talkback and remote camera control.
Blackmagic OS is an advanced intuitive and user-friendly operating system based on the latest technology. All functions operate independently and power-up time is instantaneous. Menus appear in overlay on the HDMI video output. The interface is opened by pressing buttons on the front of the camera, so you can always access and change settings, even in the tightest of spaces. Among other functions, it offers focus and exposure tools, 3D LUT, HDR, metadata entry, timecode, and settings for Blackmagic RAW. Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera offers numerous power options. It has a DC 12V connector with locking mechanism to prevent the cable from disconnecting, and includes a power supply with 5 AC adapters for different countries. It is also compatible with standard LP-E6 batteries, which can be used as a backup source during important live broadcasts. These batteries are readily available worldwide and recharge from the camera. You can even use an adapter to connect the camera to a V-mount battery to keep it on all day. This is an ideal solution if the location lacks outlets. The optional Zoom Demand and Focus Demancosd accessories are ideal when you want to accessorize the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K as a great custom studio camera! The Zoom Demand and Focus Demand turn photographic lenses into the best broadcast optics by connecting to the camera via USB-C. Both have two USB-C ports to enable daisy-chaining as well. The design is designed for convenient and precise control of the lens, so you can frame and adjust it without ever taking your hands off the tripod arm. In addition, the buttons can be customized to manage different camera functions! Mounts to anchor Focus Demand and Zoom Demand to the tripod arms are included.
