With an active USB peripheral, signals and data flow in and out of the extension cable are managed in a buffer. This ensures better signal quality, meeting the most stringent electrical and computer specifications of the USB protocol. Using passive cables longer than 5m for the purpose of data transmission may result in signal errors or interference. Conversely, it is possible to connect up to 4 active and one 4.6m passive extension cable for a total of 24m before you may notice a loss in signal quality. Installation is simple: simply plug the male end of the active extension cable into your computer and then connect the USB cable from your camera or other device to the other end.
