With an active USB peripheral, signals and data flow in and out of the extension cord are managed in a buffered memory. This ensures better signal quality while meeting the most stringent electrical and computer specifications of the USB protocol. Using passive cables longer than 5 m for the purpose of data transmission could result in signal errors or noise. In contrast, it is possible to connect up to 4 active and one 4.6m passive extension cable for a total of 24m before you may notice a loss of signal quality. Installation is simple: just plug the male end of the active extension cord into your computer and then connect the USB cable from your camera or other device to the other end.
