2 XA (extreme aspherical) elements provide excellent resolution throughout the image, and 2 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements reduce chromatic aberration. Sharply capture eyes and expressions across the entire frame. Sony’s AR Nano II coating eliminates stray light and ghost images in all lighting conditions. Minimum focus distance is 0.85 m (AF)/0.8 m (MF).
2 XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and fast control give FE 85mm F1.4 GM II up to 3x faster AF speed than its predecessor. Moving subject tracking is improved by as much as 7x, for great reliability even at a shallow depth of field at F1.4. Supports the 120 fps shooting capability of α9 III with Global Shutter. FE 85 mm F1.4 GM II offers unique creative control for realistic portraits.
Smoother transitions
FE 85mm F1.4 GM II offers the performance of its predecessor with a new optical design that controls chromatic aberration for more natural bokeh. Circular 11-bladed aperture improves performance; precise spherical aberration control works with XA (extreme aspherical) elements to reduce onion-effect bokeh for smooth transitions from sharp focus to deep bokeh at F1.4.
20% lighter weight
XA (extreme aspherical) elements, refined optics, XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and compact circular aperture unit offer superb wide-aperture performance in a cylinder of only 84.7 mm x 107.3 mm and a weight of only 642 g. That’s about 13% less volume and 20% less weight for maximum convenience and compatibility with compact α-series bodies.
Premium reliability
2 customizable focus lock buttons and AF/MF dial offer flexibility; independent aperture ring and MF with linear response from intuitive control for creative shots. FE 85mm F1.4 GM II is compatible with 77mm threaded filters. Dust- and moisture-proof construction is reliable even in extreme environments; front fluorine coating repels contaminants.
