Sharpness is excellent in the center already at full aperture, improving further at f\/5.6. Vignetting is present at f\/1.8 but decreases with more closed apertures.<br \/>\nAutofocus, operated by a stepping motor (STM), is fast and quiet, compatible with the face and eye detection systems of Sony cameras. The lens has a jerkless aperture ring, useful for video shooting. The metal construction is dustproof, with a bayonet lens hood included.
