The bright maximum aperture of f\/2 makes this lens particularly useful for astrophotography and low-light use, and when combined with the minimum focusing distance of 5.9&#8243;, it enables the production of images with a significantly shallow depth of field. The optical construction includes three ultra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements to control chromatic and spherical aberrations, for greater sharpness, clarity and reduction of chromatic fringing. A Frog Eye Coating was also applied to repel dust and moisture from the front lens element, benefiting work in harsh environmental conditions.
